Shared ownership schemes are back in the news, and not in a good way. I was shocked to learn that it attracts more than half of all money spent on affordable housing, with social rented homes securing barely 25% of total funding. Given that people who should be in the social rented sector (but are instead pushed towards private renting) are typically the most vulnerable, this makes no sense to me – but I don’t claim to be an expert.
